Asia Dominates Global Gas Buildout with LNG and Power Investments Surge
Natural gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) have become key growth areas for the global gas industry as demand for oil and coal is constrained by electrification, improved energy efficiency, and climate policy.
Governments and energy companies are using gas more actively to meet growing electricity demand and ensure reliable power generation as renewable energy expands, driving large-scale investment in gas-fired power plants, pipelines, and LNG export and import infrastructure.
Asia leads the development of gas-fired power generation capacity with around 950,000 megawatts in operation, compared to approximately 735,000 megawatts in the Americas and 366,000 megawatts in Europe.
The region is also building a significant amount of new gas-fired generation capacity, with Asia leading the construction program at more than three times the volume of any other region.
