Asian Markets Hold Breath Ahead of US Jobs Data
Asian markets remained cautious on Friday as investors await the highly anticipated US jobs data release. This crucial report could have a significant impact on the Federal Reserve's interest-rate decision next month.
The Nikkei index in Japan held steady, despite being down 0.9% for the day. It is set to post a weekly gain of 1.2%. In contrast, South Korea's KOSPI fell 0.5%, with a weekly decline of 5.0% marking its seventh consecutive week of drops.
The jobs report is expected to show an increase of around 80,000 jobs for July, following the previous month's gain of 57,000. The unemployment rate is forecasted to remain steady at 4.2%. Analysts are divided on how this data will affect interest rates, with some predicting a strong job number would lead to higher rates and others expecting a soft report to ease yields.
Meanwhile, oil prices continued their upward trend due to escalating tensions in the Middle East. Brent crude futures rose 1% to $83.38 per barrel, despite being down 7.5% for the week.
