Asian Markets Mixed as Oil Prices Rebound Amid Global Tensions
Asian markets experienced mixed results on Friday following a moderate decline in US stocks. The Nikkei 225 index in Tokyo dropped by 0.3% to 65,500.10, while the Shanghai Composite index gained 0.8% to 3,931.54 after China reported a 24% increase in exports for July.
The Kospi in South Korea fell 0.8% to 6,242.88 and Taiwan's Taiex decreased by 0.4%. In contrast, Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose 0.2% to 25,582.34.
The price of Brent crude oil increased by nearly 1.6% to $83.78 per barrel after progress toward reopening the Strait of Hormuz remained unclear. US President Donald Trump has stated that a deal is close, but Iran has insisted on some measure of control over the strait.
