Asian Markets Rise Amid Ongoing Strait of Hormuz Talks and AI Optimism
Asian markets were mostly up on Wednesday as investors watched ongoing talks over reopening the Strait of Hormuz and continued to be optimistic about artificial intelligence. The global interest in AI has boosted some regional issues, while declining oil prices have helped gear up optimism in oil-importing nations like Japan.
Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 rose 0.6% to 66,227.55 in morning trading. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 dipped 0.2% to 9,142.60, while South Korea's Kospi jumped 1.6% to 6,849.92.
Oil prices continued to fall, with benchmark U.S. crude dropping $2.06 to $80.30 a barrel and Brent crude losing $2.31 to $86.27 a barrel. The yield on the 10-year Treasury fell to 4.63% from 4.70% late Monday, a significant move for the bond market.
Nvidia, which is set to report its latest earnings results Wednesday, helped lead the way in the AI sector. Eric Schiffer, who heads the Los Angeles-based Patriarch Organization, expects demand to keep growing in the AI sector despite some adjustments in the future.
