Asian Stocks Bounce Ahead of US Jobs Report
Asian equities and government bonds experienced a rebound on Thursday as investors looked ahead to upcoming U.S. economic releases and remarks from central bank officials for clues about a possible Federal Reserve rate move this month.
The yen maintained its strength, with yields on Japanese government bonds retreating from record peaks. This mirrored an overnight recovery in U.S. Treasuries just before Tokyo's auction of ultra-long-term debt.
Crude oil prices slipped from recent highs, due to ongoing uncertainty surrounding fresh U.S.-Iran military confrontations. The immediate focus for markets is Friday's crucial U.S. jobs report, following weaker-than-expected private sector employment figures for August.
Fed Governor Christopher Waller is scheduled to speak after New York Fed President John Williams dampened expectations for a rate increase at the upcoming meeting. A senior markets strategist at NAB noted that a resolution to the conflict would be highly beneficial in lowering yields across the board, alleviating pressures and enabling central banks to refocus on standard monetary policy considerations.
