Asian stocks mostly rose in early trading on Wednesday as investors monitored ongoing talks to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which has been largely shut down due to the conflict between Iran and the US.

The global interest in artificial intelligence continued to boost regional issues, while declining oil prices increased optimism in oil-importing nations like Japan, which imports virtually all its oil.

Japan's benchmark Nikkei 225 rose 0.6% to 66,227.55, while Australia's S&P/ASX 200 dipped 0.2% to 9,142.60. South Korea's Kospi jumped 1.6% to 6,849.92.

Oil prices continued to fall, with U.S. crude dropping $2.06 to $80.30 a barrel and Brent crude losing $2.31 to $86.27 a barrel.

Tensions between the US and Iran escalated after the Trump administration announced new sanctions aimed at hurting Iran's economy. Diplomats from Iran and Oman met on Tuesday to discuss a phased approach to managing ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, while Pakistan's Interior Minister said talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian had been 'very positive and productive.'

The yield on the 10-year Treasury fell to 4.63% from 4.70% late Monday, a significant move in the bond market.
