Asian stock markets followed Wall Street's lead on Monday, with Japan's Nikkei 225 index rising by 2.1% to 66,970.22. This gain was largely driven by strong performances from technology companies, including Tokyo Electron and Advantest, which saw increases of 4.1% and 6.4%, respectively.

The Tokyo stock market's gains were not echoed in South Korea, where the Kospi added a more modest 0.7%. Samsung Electronics lost 0.4%, while its smaller rival SK Hynix slipped by 0.1%. Analysts attributed these losses to foreign investors selling shares in major tech companies to lock in profits and rebalance their portfolios.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong's Hang Seng index gained 0.9% to 25,904.94, while the Shanghai Composite index picked up 0.7% to 3,966.59. In contrast, Australia's S&P/ASX 200 lost 0.3% to 9,232.60.

Oil prices rose after Israel rejected a proposed deal with Gaza announced by U.S. President Donald Trump. The potential agreement between Iran and Oman on managing the Strait of Hormuz was also in focus, with Tehran suggesting that vessels linked to 'hostile countries' would be barred from passing through.
