Asia's Gas Power Surge Drives Global Energy Shift
Natural gas is emerging as a powerhouse fuel in the energy sector due to its growing demand amidst declining oil and coal usage. The rise of electrification and climate policies has led governments and utilities to rely more on natural gas for meeting electricity needs while ensuring reliable power alongside renewables.
According to Global Energy Monitor data, Asia leads the way in gas-fired power capacity with 950,000 MW operational compared to 735,000 MW in the Americas and 366,000 MW in Europe. China is at the forefront of pipeline expansion, constructing an additional 140,000 MW.
The United States stands as the top LNG exporter with extensive infrastructure supporting its status, while Asia dominates the import scene, accounting for over two-thirds of global import capacity. This indicates natural gas's lasting impact on the global energy landscape.
