ASX 200 Expected to Open Lower After Poor US Session
The Australian share market is set for a slow start to the week after finishing last Friday in a subdued manner, according to the S&P/ASX 200 Index's (ASX: XJO) performance. The benchmark index fell by 0.15% to 9,005.9 points.
Market analysts expect the ASX 200 to edge lower on Monday, following a poor session on Wall Street the previous day. The Dow Jones was down 0.5%, the S&P 500 dropped 0.4%, and the Nasdaq fell 0.3% in the United States.
The energy sector may see some gains, however, as oil prices rose on Friday night. According to Bloomberg, the WTI crude oil price increased by 0.2% to US$91.48 a barrel, while the Brent crude oil price rose by 0.8% to US$96.28 a barrel.
Several companies are also going ex-dividend this morning, including Pro Medicus Ltd (ASX: PME), Alkane Resources Ltd (ASX: ALK), and Perseus Mining Ltd (ASX: PRU). The ex-dividend date for these shares may impact their trading price.
