Austral Ditches APA, Eyes Copper Production Boost
Austral Resources (ASX: AR1) is accelerating its copper production at Mt Kelly after exiting the Anthill Project Agreement (APA) with Glencore and Secover. The company will retain 100% of the economic benefit from the Anthill copper production, which it says had been constraining its operational flexibility and financial transparency.
The APA has settled for $51.98 million, comprising a cash payment of $37.6 million and $14.38 million in shares. Austral will issue 159.83 million shares at $0.09 each, a 40% premium to its closing price on July 27, 2026.
The deal is expected to add immediate operational clarity and potential value to the company, according to AR1 chairman David Newling. He said that both Glencore and Secover have agreed to the termination of the APA and will receive shares at a premium to the current trading price, demonstrating their belief in Austral's future.
