Copper prices have edged up on concerns about supply after a major Indonesian smelter temporarily shut down, ahead of key US inflation data.

The Australian copper mining sector is benefiting from these supply fears, with shares rising more than the broader market. Sandfire Resources has reached its highest level since January 30, gaining as much as 1.9% to A$21.72, and on track for a ninth straight day of gains.

Australia-listed Capstone Copper shares have also gained, rising up to 2% to A$16.2, their highest since February 16, and are on track for a seven-session winning run.
