Australian Crop Forecasters Revise Estimates Upward Following Improved Weather

Experts at the Australian Bureau of Resources and Agricultural Economics (ABARES) have increased their forecast for winter crop production in Australia by 12% to 61 million tonnes. This revised estimate is based on improved weather conditions, particularly high levels of soil moisture in the south and southeast regions, which accelerated crop development.

The improved weather has led to significant increases in production forecasts for various crops. Canola production is now expected to reach 7.3 million tonnes, a 37% increase above the 10-year average but 5% lower than last year's harvest due to decreased yields in Western Australia. Wheat production is forecasted at 29.9 million tons, exceeding the 10-year average by 3% but falling short of last year's record harvest by 17%. Barley production is expected to reach 16.4 million tons, only 3% lower than last year's record and 30% higher than the 10-year average.
