Australian Export Prices Rise 1.1%, Import Prices Jump 5.7% in Q3 2026
The Australian Bureau of Statistics released its International Trade Price Indexes for the March 2026 quarter, showing an increase in export prices and a significant rise in import prices.
Export prices rose by 1.1% for the quarter, driven by higher coal, coke, and briquettes prices due to increased demand from countries shifting to coal-fired power generation amid limited LNG supply.
Petroleum and related products surged 22.7%, supported by ongoing Middle East tensions that tightened global crude oil supplies.
However, gold, non-monetary, fell 8.8% as tightening monetary policy expectations and higher US treasury bond yields outweighed safe-haven demand.
