Axpo and Vitol Launch LNG Bunkering at Italy's Largest Cruise Port
Axpo and Vitol have expanded their low-emission maritime fuel supply chain in Italy, completing the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering operation at Civitavecchia port. The operation refuelled a flagship vessel of an international cruise line.
The LNG bunkering was carried out by Green Pearl, a 7,500m³ Italian bunkering vessel operated by Axpo. This marks the latest location to offer LNG services in Italy, following earlier launches in Genoa and Naples.
Axpo says this expansion demonstrates the rapid growth of its low-emission maritime fuel supply chain and reflects rising demand from major cruise operators as the sector accelerates decarbonisation.
