Azerbaijan Surpasses Russia as Turkey's Top Pipeline Gas Supplier
Azerbaijan has surpassed Russia as Turkey's largest natural gas supplier via pipeline, according to official data from the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK). In June, Azerbaijan supplied approximately 1.01 billion cubic meters of pipeline gas to Turkey, surpassing Iran's 883 million cubic meters and Russia's 882 million cubic meters.
This marks a significant shift in Turkey's natural gas imports, as Russia had been the largest supplier via pipeline for the first five months of 2026. Azerbaijan, however, has consistently supplied more gas to Turkey through pipelines in June of each year since 2023, with volumes increasing from 744 million cubic meters in 2023 to 1.02 billion cubic meters in 2025.
Turkey's total natural gas imports decreased by 6.19% year-on-year in June, but natural gas consumption increased by 4.59% year-on-year to approximately 2.83 billion cubic meters.
