B.C.'s Oil and Gas Investments Surge Past Pre-COVID Levels
A recent study has revealed that British Columbia's (B.C.) share of investment in Canada's oil and gas sector has more than doubled since 2006. According to the study, which was published by Philip Cross, a senior research fellow with Resource Works, B.C. accounted for 30% of Canada's investments into oil and gas in 2024.
The study shows that the province's share of the country's total investment peaked at 35% in 2023. Pipeline construction in B.C. played a significant role in this growth, with projects such as the liquified natural gas (LNG) terminal in Kitimat and the twinned Trans Mountain Pipeline for oil.
The study also highlights that investments from B.C. connected northeast B.C. natural gas fields to the LNG terminal in Kitimat. By 2024, pipeline construction in B.C. accounted for more than 50% of the country's total pipeline construction.
