Bahrain and Saudi Arabia Condemn Iranian Attack on Oil Tanker
Bahrain and Saudi Arabia have condemned an Iranian attack on a Saudi-flagged oil tanker that resulted in the deaths of two Filipino sailors. The incident occurred on August 31 in the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway through which international maritime traffic passes.
The attack has raised concerns over the safety of shipping in the region, with Bahrain's Foreign Ministry stating that it violates international law and poses a serious threat to maritime security and freedom of navigation. The ministry called on the UN Security Council to take measures to halt attacks threatening shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
Saudi Arabia also condemned Iran's targeting of the Sidr while it was transiting the waterway, expressing full support and solidarity with Bahrain in measures taken to protect its security and sovereignty. Saudi Arabia called for an end to the escalation, respect for international navigation and global energy supplies, and adherence to state sovereignty, the UN Charter, and international law.
