An international arbitration tribunal has largely rejected Bahrain's preliminary objections to claims brought by Petroiran Oil Services Co., an Iranian state-owned oil company's trading arm, over funds held in Bahraini banks.

The tribunal found that Petroiran Oil Services Co. did not abuse the legal process in bringing its claims against Bahrain, according to a report from Law360 on August 11, 2026.

Bahrain had argued that Petroiran Oil Services Co.'s claims were premature and should be dismissed. However, the tribunal ruled in favor of the Iranian company, paving the way for further proceedings in the case.
