Baird Presses Senate to Pass Farm Bill Amid Challenging Year for Farmers
Congressman Jim Baird is urging the Senate to pass its version of the Farm Bill, which expires at the end of the fiscal year on September 30th. The House passed its version earlier this spring, and now it's up to the Senate Agriculture Committee to mark up and vote on their version.
Baird says the pressure is on to get the bill done as soon as possible, especially given the challenging year for farmers due to rising input costs and low commodity prices. 'We really need this safety net that's created by the Farm Bill,' he said.
The Senate version of the bill includes year-round E15, which Baird sees as a key provision to help generate income for farmers. He noted that utilizing more corn through E15 would improve the economy and increase the price per bushel paid for corn crops.
