Balochistan Gas Supplies Suspended Amid Pipeline Fault
A critical infrastructure failure in Pakistan's energy network has left vast swathes of Balochistan without natural gas, exposing the fragility of the country's winter heating and industrial supply chains.
The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) confirmed on August 13 that gas supplies were suspended to multiple districts, including Kolpur, Mach, Mastung, Kalat, Pishin, Ziarat, and significant portions of the provincial capital, Quetta. The shutdown was triggered by a fault in a major 16-inch diameter transmission valve, a vital artery in the regional distribution grid.
The disruption comes at a sensitive time for the region, where households and small industries rely heavily on gas for daily operations and manufacturing processes. Infrastructure analysts have repeatedly warned that Pakistan's natural gas wealth is being wasted due to aging pipelines, security threats, and technical sabotage.
