Amid escalating security risks and uncertainty in the Black Sea, the Baltic ports of Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia are transforming into an important hub for global wheat exports.
Demand for Baltic Ports is Rising
In recent months, a significant increase in demand for wheat supplies has been observed at the Baltic ports. According to industry publications, by August, capacities for unloading approximately 1 million tons of wheat had been booked, which represents a 50% increase compared to the same period last year.
This shift towards the Baltic ports is linked to the growing risks associated with vessel and port infrastructure operations in the Black Sea. The high uncertainty in supply chains has prompted international grain traders to seek new routes and alternative ports for loading.
