Baltic States Unite to Check Russian Grain Transits

The Baltic states of Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia are coordinating efforts to control grain transit from Russia and Belarus through their ports. The initiative aims to ensure that grain shipments originating from these countries undergo thorough checks before entering the region.

Lithuanian Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius has already discussed the matter with his Latvian counterpart, and authorities in Lithuania have ordered checks on all grain transiting from Russia and Belarus. The checks include both food-grade and feed grain, with samples taken from a recent shipment at the port of Klaipėda.

Lithuania is considering moving grain sampling directly to its borders with Belarus and Russia's Kaliningrad region, which would allow shipments to be checked before reaching the port. This move could free up port capacity for exports of grain produced by Lithuanian farmers.
