Baltimore Port Gets Major Grain Export Hub
The Port of Baltimore is set to become a major hub for grain exports in the US after Governor Wes Moore announced the opening of a new grain transloading facility. The four-acre facility, located at the Seagirt container terminal operated by Ports America Chesapeake, includes three grain silos and has a combined capacity of 60,000 bushels.
The facility is designed to allow farmers to export their soybeans, corn, wheat, and other grains directly to Europe, Asia, and South America without having to transfer them to offsite containers. This will streamline the supply chain and reduce costs for producers.
According to Governor Moore, 'The Port of Baltimore remains the economic engine of our state, connecting Maryland's economy to markets around the globe.' The project was completed through a partnership between Ports America Chesapeake and Frey Commodities.
