Baltimore Port Streamlines Grain Exports with New Facility
The Port of Baltimore has opened a new grain transloading facility that promises to simplify exports for Maryland farmers.
The four-acre facility at the Seagirt Marine Terminal allows soybeans, corn, wheat and other grains to be loaded directly into shipping containers before being shipped overseas.
With a combined storage capacity of 60,000 bushels in three silos, the facility can load more than 200 shipping containers per week. This streamlined process eliminates an extra step where farmers previously had to transport their grain to an off-site location for loading into containers.
The new system enables grain to be delivered directly to Seagirt by truck or rail, stored in on-site silos and then loaded into export containers bound for markets in Europe, Asia and South America.
