Bangladesh Approves Direct Procurement of LNG Cargoes, Electric Buses Amid Geopolitical Uncertainty

The Bangladesh government has approved direct procurement of eight liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes, 5,000 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and 200 electric buses for the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC).

The approvals came at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.

Four separate proposals were approved to procure eight LNG cargoes from international markets through direct procurement due to geopolitical instability linked to the Iran conflict and the US-Israel war.

The committee also cleared the purchase of 5,000 tonnes of LPG from Speed Marketing Corporation (Speed Group) to meet emergency demand and increase the government's share in the LPG market.
