The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase in Bangladesh has approved a proposal to buy one cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the spot market at $23.93 per MMBtu.

This is one of the highest rates Bangladesh has paid for purchasing LNG since the war broke out in the Middle East in February last year.

The LNG cargo will be supplied by Aramco Trading Singapore Pte Ltd and is expected to arrive in September to meet the country's demand for gas amid severe short supply.
