Bangladesh Approves Import of 14 LNG Cargoes, Urea Fertiliser Amid Supply Concerns
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved policy for importing 14 liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes to maintain normal gas supply in Bangladesh. The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury on August 19. Considering national interest and the emergency situation, approval was given for purchasing the LNG from seven organisations through direct procurement.
The committee also approved proposals for importing urea fertiliser, purchasing driving simulators for technical training centres, and appointing consultants for technical assistance at the Ghorashal-Palash urea fertiliser factory. A contract related to the import of urea fertiliser by Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) with UAE-based Fertiglobe Distribution Limited was approved.
Additionally, 40 driving simulators will be purchased through direct procurement for installation at 40 technical training centres across the country. Consultants from Japan's MHI will provide technical assistance in production and maintenance activities of the Ghorashal-Palash urea fertiliser factory.
