Bangladesh Approves Import of 18 LNG Cargoes Amid Geopolitical Uncertainty
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved a proposal to import 18 cargoes of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) from Total Energies to meet Bangladesh's emergency gas demand.
The approval was given at the CCEA meeting held with Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury in the chair. The Energy and Mineral Resources Division placed the proposal before the committee, citing an unstable geopolitical situation and concerns over energy security due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Under the approved proposal, Bangladesh will import two LNG cargoes per month from October 2026 to June 2027. The agreement also includes a provision for procuring additional LNG cargoes if required, subject to mutual consent of the two parties.
