Bangladesh Boosts Coal-Powered Energy Amid Natural Gas Shortage
Bangladesh Prime Minister directed Power, Energy and Mineral Resources officials to increase power generation from coal-based power plants and free more gas for industries.
The government aims to provide a clear scenario on energy availability to investors. In an effort to reduce the country's power sector dependency on natural gas in the short term, power generation from coal-fired power plants is being increased.
Natural gas remains the major primary fuel for electricity generation, but its shortage has led to frequent and prolonged power outages across the country.
