Bangladesh Braces for Energy Crisis as Global Conflicts Intensify
The Bangladesh government is racing against time to secure fuel and fertiliser supplies as tensions between Iran, US, and Israel threaten energy security, agricultural production, and the overall economy.
According to officials, a prolonged supply disruption could affect power generation, industrial production, transport, and agriculture simultaneously, pushing up import costs, dollar demand, and inflation.
To mitigate risks, the government is building strategic fuel oil reserves equivalent to 90 days of demand and has accelerated efforts to source fuel and fertiliser from alternative markets.
Bangladesh is negotiating with new fertiliser suppliers outside the Middle East, while emergency preparations are underway in anticipation of prolonged disruption to Middle Eastern supply chains.
