Bangladesh Buys More LNG From Saudi Arabia Amid Ongoing Supply Disruption

The Bangladesh government has approved the purchase of another cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Saudi Arabia to stabilize gas supplies after weeks of disruption caused by an outage at one of its floating LNG terminals.

The approval was given at the eighth meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase for the 2026-27 fiscal year, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury.

The committee cleared a proposal to procure one LNG cargo from Aramco Trading Singapore, a subsidiary of Saudi Aramco, through direct procurement under a government-to-government (G2G) arrangement. The cargo will be delivered on August 11-12, 2026, at a price of $21.55 per million British thermal units (MMBtu).

This move comes as Bangladesh increasingly relies on imported LNG to offset declining domestic natural gas production and maintain fuel supplies for electricity generation, industries, and other consumers.
