Bangladesh Considers Floating LNG Terminal Amid Gas Shortage Concerns

The government of Bangladesh is considering the construction of a new floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal to address concerns over sudden gas shortages. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman revealed in Parliament that Payra or Mongla ports, or a suitable location along the southwestern coast, are under consideration for the new terminal.

The proposed floating LNG terminal at Kutubjom in Maheshkhali is expected to begin supplying regasified LNG by 2028. A land-based LNG terminal at Matarbari will supply gas by December 2030, according to the Prime Minister's statement.
