Petrobangla, Bangladesh's state-run energy company, has extended its deadline for interested spot liquefied natural gas (LNG) suppliers to submit applications for enlistment. The new deadline is September 22, giving potential global LNG suppliers an extra week to apply.

The move comes as the country struggles with a worsening gas crisis due to declining contractual supplies and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. Petrobangla has increased its reliance on spot LNG imports in recent months to meet domestic demand.

By expanding its pool of approved international suppliers, Petrobangla aims to attract more bidders and bring down procurement costs. Currently, only a handful of the 32 listed suppliers regularly participate in spot LNG tenders.
