Bangladesh Extends Deadline for Spot LNG Suppliers Amid Worsening Gas Crisis
Petrobangla has extended its deadline for interested spot liquefied natural gas (LNG) suppliers to submit applications for enlistment. The new deadline is September 22, one week after the initial target of September 15.
The state-run Petrobangla is seeking to expand its pool of approved international suppliers as Bangladesh relies increasingly on the volatile spot market to meet domestic gas demand due to declining contractual supplies and a worsening gas shortage.
Petrobangla aims to attract more bidders and bring down procurement costs, as only a handful of the 32 currently listed suppliers regularly participate in spot LNG tenders. Wider participation could increase competition and help lower the cost of LNG purchased from the spot market.
