Bangladesh Eyes Myanmar Gas Pipeline Amid Ongoing Crisis

The government of Bangladesh is exploring new sources to tackle its ongoing gas crisis. Following its initiative to import liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Malaysia, importing gas from Myanmar has now come under discussion.

Bangladesh has proposed importing gas directly through a pipeline, and Myanmar has expressed interest in discussing the possibility of supplying LNG to Bangladesh as an alternative. However, the proposal is still at the preliminary stage of talks, with many factors yet to be determined.

The World Bank reports that Myanmar has proven gas reserves of about 22 trillion cubic feet, which would last for approximately 40 years at current production rates. However, the country's gas production has declined compared to previous years due to a political crisis and economic sanctions.
