On July 21st, a fire severely damaged multiple cable systems connected to the Excelerate Energy floating LNG terminal's two boilers. This has forced a reduction of 450 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) in gas supply from the national grid.

The government is now fast-tracking the importation of critical spare parts for the damaged equipment. The Energy and Mineral Resources Division approved the request to import spare parts within one hour, allowing the import permit to be issued promptly. Excelerate Energy sought permission through Petrobangla yesterday to import 10 packages of required spare parts from Finland, Spain, and Türkiye.

The affected terminal normally supplies around 500-550mmcfd of gas to the national grid, accounting for a significant share of Bangladesh's imported LNG supply. Excelerate aims to resume partial gas supply next week, with an initial target of supplying 280-300mmcfd of gas to the national grid.
