Bangladesh FSRU Halts Gas Supply Again Due to LNG Cargo Shortage
The Excelerate Energy-operated floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) at Moheshkhali in Bangladesh has halted supply to the national grid for a second time this week, just four days after partially resuming operations. The terminal had been out of commission for 25 days following a fire on July 21.
According to sources at Petrobangla and the Energy Division, the Excelerate terminal stopped supplying gas around 3pm today due to a shortage of LNG cargo. Its remaining stock had depleted, causing the supply to be halted.
The terminal had reduced its supply since yesterday as its LNG stock dwindled, but was unable to continue supplying gas to the national grid despite being ready to operate. Several sources stated that several LNG cargoes were procured through direct purchases outside the regular procurement process to secure supplies at lower prices, but none of these cargoes have arrived yet.
An LNG cargo is expected to arrive today and may be connected to Summit's terminal, which has a capacity of 500 million cubic feet (mmcf) per day. Another cargo for the Excelerate terminal could arrive between August 23 and 24.
