Bangladesh FSRU Resumes Operation After Two-Week Closure

A Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) in Bangladesh has resumed operation after being closed for two weeks following an accident. The unit, located on Moheshkhali island in the Bay of Bengal, restarted regasification around 3:00am on August 6.

Tariqul Islam Khan, a spokesperson for Petrobangla, said that the damaged unit is currently re-gasifying approximately 115 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) of liquefied natural gas. With this resumption, Bangladesh's overall LNG regasification from its two FSRUs reached around 620 mmcfd, up from 490 mmcfd the previous day.

The country's power and energy minister, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud, stated that gas supplies across the country will return to normal within two to three days as the FSRU has resumed operations. The temporary gas shortage had affected electricity generation, resulting in load shedding in different areas due to several power plants shutting down due to the shortage.
