Bangladesh FSRU Resumes Operation After Two-Week Shutdown
The Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) on Moheshkhali island in the Bay of Bengal has resumed operation after a two-week shutdown due to an accident.
The FSRU, owned by a US company, restarted its regasification process around 3:00am on August 6, with one boiler successfully repaired and currently re-gasifying approximately 115 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
This development has provided immediate relief to industries, power plants, and household consumers struggling with a fuel crunch.
The resumption of the FSRU's operation has increased Bangladesh's overall LNG regasification from 490mmcfd to around 620mmcfd. Regasification is expected to reach above 250mmcfd by August 7, and eventually hit around 800mmcfd with the ship-to-ship transfer of an LNG cargo into the floating terminal.
Petrobangla spokesperson Tariqul Islam Khan stated that full-scale operation of the damaged FSRU might take another week.
