Bangladesh Gas Crisis Worsens as FSRU Fire Causes 10-15 Day Disruption
A fire at one of Bangladesh's two Floating Storage and Regasification Units (FSRUs) has disrupted liquefied natural gas imports, exacerbating a nationwide gas shortage. Energy Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood revealed that the damaged FSRU will take 10-15 days to repair, causing further disruption to electricity generation and industrial production.
The minister stated that two LNG cargoes are currently waiting offshore but cannot be unloaded due to the interruption in operations. As a result, gas pressure is low across the country, affecting both residential areas and industries.
