The gas crisis in Bangladesh has deepened as the Summit LNG terminal in Maheshkhali Upazila of Cox's Bazar suspended operations due to rough seas preventing an LNG cargo from being connected. This comes after a fire at Excelerate Energy's LNG terminal reduced its supply capacity by half.

The country's gas demand is around 380 crore cubic feet a day, but the current supply has fallen to around 190 crore cubic feet. The two floating LNG terminals in Maheshkhali have a combined capacity of 110 crore cubic feet daily, but this has been reduced to around 30 crore cubic feet.

An RPGCL official stated that the sea conditions were more than twice the limit set for berthing LNG cargoes. Authorities are trying to berth the cargo tonight if necessary, as there is no other option given the gas crisis.
