Bangladesh Gas Shortage Continues as LNG Terminal Repairs Stall
A boiler explosion at Bangladesh's Maheshkhali Floating LNG terminal has reduced imported LNG supply by almost half, triggering a nationwide gas shortage. State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit stated that it will take at least another week to restore gas supply from the offshore facility after repairs.
The incident was caused by a boiler explosion following a fire, according to the state minister. Local and foreign engineers are working together to repair the damaged terminal, with experts from the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, and Bangladesh involved in the process.
Bangladesh's daily gas demand stands at around 3.8 billion cubic feet, while the country previously supplied about 2.7 billion cubic feet per day. Following the disruption in LNG imports, daily supply has fallen to around 2.25 billion cubic feet, leaving nearly 40% of the country's gas demand unmet.
