Bangladesh Gas Supply Crisis Eases Slightly Amid LNG Terminal Shutdown
The gas supply in Bangladesh has seen some improvement after a two-week disruption caused by the shutdown of Excelerate Energy's LNG terminal. The terminal, which has a capacity of 600 million cubic feet, was shut down on July 21 following a fire and resumed operations yesterday morning. Initially, it supplied 115 million cubic feet of gas before gradually increasing to 300 million cubic feet by Thursday evening.
According to Petrobangla, the damaged boiler in the terminal will not be ready for testing until August 10, after which the operational boiler will have to be shut down, temporarily halting gas supply from Excelerate's terminal. The country's daily gas demand stands at around 3.8 billion cubic feet, while LNG accounts for about 1.05 billion cubic feet of this amount.
The partial resumption of Excelerate's terminal has increased total daily gas supply to over 2.45 billion cubic feet, but it is expected to decrease again once the damaged boiler is repaired and operations resume at full capacity.
