Bangladesh Gas Supply to Normalize in 2-3 Days After FSRU Resumes Operations
Gas supply in Bangladesh is expected to return to normal within two to three days as Excelerate Energy's floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) gradually resumes operations.
The FSRU, which has been shut since July 21 due to a fire that damaged two of its boilers, began supplying around 115 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) of gas to the national grid on August 6.
Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood said that once the regasification system becomes fully operational, gas supply will improve and return to the level seen before the disruption caused by the FSRU shutdown.
The minister acknowledged that the shutdown had significantly reduced regasified LNG supply, intensifying the country's ongoing gas crisis, which affected industries, households, and power generation. He also said that gas supply disruptions have affected power plants, but once gas supply returns to normal, these plants will be brought back into operation.
Bangladesh has requested India to increase diesel supplies through the cross-border pipeline, as the country seeks higher diesel imports from its neighboring country.
