Bangladesh Gold Prices Rise: BAJUS Announces Increase in Local Bullion Market
The Bangladesh Jewelers Association (BAJUS) announced an increase in gold prices in the local bullion market on Saturday, September 12, 2026. According to the new price, the highest quality 22-carat gold per bhori has been increased by 1,050 taka, from the previous price of 2,31,880 taka to the new price of 2,32,930 taka. This change also applies to 21-carat and 18-carat gold, with prices increasing by 1,050 taka and 933 taka respectively.
Gold is measured in carats (or karats), which represent its purity level. The most common purities are 24 Carat (99.9% pure), 22 Carat (91.67% pure), and 18 Carat (75% pure). In Bangladesh, the primary unit for measuring gold is 'bhori' (11.664 grams) but grams are also used for precision and international transactions.
According to BAJUS, buyers must pay more than the set price when purchasing gold jewelry due to a 5% VAT added to the fixed price for selling gold ornaments. Additionally, a minimum making charge of BDT 3,500 per 'bhori' is applied.
