The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) has increased the price of gold in the local market, marking a reversal of three consecutive cuts. The new price of 22-carat gold, inclusive of VAT, has been fixed at Tk232,930 per bhori, effective from 10am on September 12.

This hike of Tk1,050 per bhori comes after Bajus had last adjusted gold prices on September 11, cutting the rate by Tk2,158 per bhori. The new rates will remain in effect at all jewellery shops until further notice, with making charges applying depending on jewellery design.

The association noted that the adjustment was made due to a rise in the price of pure gold (tejabi gold) in the local market. The new prices for different types of gold are: 21-carat Tk222,491, 18-carat Tk191,056, and traditional (Sanatan) gold Tk156,064, all inclusive of VAT.
