Bangladesh LNG Terminal Reopens After Three-Day Pause
The Excelerate Energy-run offshore LNG terminal in Bangladesh has resumed gas supplies after a three-day pause due to low fuel stocks. The terminal restarted operations at around 2pm on Saturday, providing much-needed relief to the country's strained energy markets.
A new LNG cargo arrived at the terminal ahead of schedule, which will supply 100 million cubic feet of gas per day (mmcfd) initially, compared to its full capacity of 600 mmcfd. Petrobangla officials stated that supplies would 'gradually increase.'
The resumption of operations comes after a fire incident on July 21 caused a prolonged technical issue, further straining the country's energy supplies already impacted by the war in the Middle East. The terminal had previously resumed operations on August 15 but halted gas supplies four days later due to depleted LNG stocks.
