Bangladesh Power Crisis Deepens as LNG Supplies Plummet

A severe energy crisis is gripping Bangladesh due to a sharp decline in liquefied natural gas supplies. The country's national grid received only 408 million cubic feet per day of LNG on August 12, down from 563.4 mmcfd the previous day and well below its combined regasification capacity of 1,100 mmcfd.

The power sector, which requires around 2,524.9 mmcfd of gas, received only 744.1 mmcfd, causing widespread power outages across the country.

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit said that the government has adopted measures to improve the situation and hopes it will be resolved by evening. However, long queues at CNG filling stations have been reported, with some drivers waiting over 3.5 hours to fill up.
