Bangladesh Proposes Gas Import from Myanmar Through Pipeline

Bangladesh's government has proposed importing gas from Myanmar through a pipeline as part of its 'Neighbours First' policy.

Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud met with Myanmar's Ambassador to Bangladesh U Kyaw Soe Moe at the Secretariat on Sunday to discuss the proposal.

The minister stated that Bangladesh has a demand for gas and is interested in importing it from Myanmar via pipeline. The ambassador responded positively, also mentioning the possibility of supplying gas in the form of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).

A previous proposal to build a gas pipeline from Myanmar to Chattogram was discussed during the meeting, with Mahmud suggesting that former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's initiative could be reconsidered.
