Bangladesh Secures LNG Supplies Amid Ongoing Energy Needs
The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase has approved the purchase of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo from Aramco Trading Singapore Pte Ltd to maintain normal gas supply in Bangladesh. The price of $23.93 per million British thermal units (MMBtu) is for the 44th LNG cargo of 2026, which will be supplied between September 1st and 2nd. This deal is part of a larger purchase of 14 more LNG cargoes from seven other companies.
The government also approved the import of MOP fertiliser at $377.63 per tonne, urea fertiliser from Saudi Arabia at $430 per tonne, and refined palm olein at Tk184.10 per litre. A feasibility study for a multimodal transport hub was also given approval, with an estimated cost of Tk53.66m.
These decisions were made during a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase, chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury. The committee approved a total of seven proposals from different ministries and divisions.
